Overview

AGI (Asian Growth Research Institute) was established on September 1, 1989 as a foundation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (formerly the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture). Its principal assets amount to 937,352,000 yen. The Institute aims to contribute to knowledge and understanding of development issues in Asia and it also seeks to encourage international cooperation. To attain these goals it conducts research on economic and social issues in Asia and promotes international academic exchanges.

History

Sep.1989 ICSEAD was established as a cooperative research facility with the University of Pennsylvania.
Prof. Eiichi Isomura assumed office as President of ICSEAD (~Jun.1995).
Jan.1990 ICSEAD became an authorized foundation by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture.
Prof. Kenzou Tanaka assumed office as Chairman of ICSEAD (~ Jun.2005).
Jul.1995 Prof. Shinichi Ichimura assumed office as President of ICSEAD (~ Mar.2002).
Apr.2002 Prof. Shoichi Yamashita assumed office as President of ICSEAD (~ Mar.2009).
Jun.2005 Mr.Michisada Kamata assumed office as Chairman of ICSEAD (~ Jun.2009).
Apr.2009 Prof. Hidehiko Tanimura assumed office as President of ICSEAD (~ Jun.2013).
Jun.2009 Mr.Koichi Sueyoshi assumed office as Chairman of ICSEAD (~ present).
Jul.2013 Prof. Tatsuo Hatta assumed office as President of ICSEAD (~ Mar.2022).
Oct.2014 The name of the institute was changed to the Asian Growth Research Institute (AGI).
Jun.2018 Prof.Tatsuo Hatta assumed office as Chairman of AGI (~ present).
Jul.2022 Prof. Erbiao Dai assumed office as President of AGI (~ present).
