Title

Elderly well-being amidst energy poverty: A Vietnam perspective

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigates the effects of energy poverty on the life satisfaction of elderly individuals by using the 2011 Vietnam National Aging Survey (VNAS). To address the potential endogeneity issues, we employ a two-stage least squares regression (2SLS) using the development of provincial-level ICT infrastructure as a key instrumental variable (IV). We demonstrate that exposure to energy poverty yields an adverse influence on the elderly’s life satisfaction. This key finding survives several rigorous robustness checks. We further explore that the impact of energy poverty on life satisfaction in Vietnam is mediated through health status and depression level.
