Job Opportunities for Assistant/Associate/Full Research Professors

The Asian Growth Research Institute (AGI, formerly called the International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development or ICSEAD) in Kitakyushu City, Japan, is now seeking candidates for the position of Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, or Research Professor in economics and related fields to start in Fall 2017 or earlier.

About AGI: AGI was established as a cooperative research facility with the University of Pennsylvania in 1989 and became a public interest incorporated foundation in 2012. AGI has been focusing on studies of socioeconomic issues in Asia, aiming to promote international academic exchange as well as policy cooperation in Asia. The composition of AGI researchers is international, and we currently have researchers from China, Japan, the United States, and Vietnam. We rank 12th within Japan among all economics departments and institutions, according to RePEc (Research Papers in Economics).

Qualifications: We are interested in researchers who have a Ph.D. degree in Economics or related fields, who have an interest in Asia, and who can conduct independent academic research and play an active role in joint policy-oriented research. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in environmental economics, the Asian economies, development economics, and urban economics, but all fields will be considered. Research Associate Professors and Research Professors may be asked to teach in English in our joint graduate programs at Kyushu University and the University of Kitakyushu. Candidates must show a strong record of research productivity and publications in international refereed academic journals. Candidates who will have a Ph.D. degree by June 2017 are also welcome to apply for this position.

Terms and Conditions: This position is tenure track, and the initial contract will be for five years, renewable for another five years. A reappointment decision will be made by the end of the fifth year. The salary of AGI researchers is equivalent to national or public university professors in Japan and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. AGI offers a comprehensive benefit and retirement package including medical insurance. AGI also provides research funds for supporting researcher’s academic research and other research activities.
